The cover versions that, along with one original composition, made up Birdy’s self-titled, 1.5m-selling debut album were an extraordinary introduction to an artist who – despite her tender years and the fact that she was interpreting other writers’ songs – managed to stamp her instantly recognisable identity on all of them. Eighteen months on, the Hampshire singer released her second album, Fire Within, charting at #8 in the UK and debuting in the top 10 in 9 different countries. Birdy has further demonstrated her success by selling out three nights at the Sydney Opera House and performing at London’s Paralympic Opening Ceremony.
In March 2016 Birdy released her third album, the elegant and evocative Beautiful Lies, which featured the singles ‘Keeping Your Head Up’ and ‘Wild Horses. Rich with emotion and frequently uplifting, Beautiful Lies chronicles a critical period of self-discovery and newfound independence for Birdy.
